This exhibition invites visitors to step into the artist’s meticulously constructed spiritual world — one that is both adorable and uncanny — and experience the unique narrative woven through more than ten paintings and installations. We sincerely welcome your visit!
“No chart was ever held by the wanderer.
What celestial light can mirror the road you take?
I crawl on without end,
Becoming by degrees a single, isolated stone.
You passed through and came back,
Scattering threads that betray the route you followed.
Ponder this, A bubble of foam, or the moon brought down?
The distinction is now irrelevant.” ——Chen Wei Ting

Life is but a fleeting sojourn. One may look back at the past, gaze toward the future, or dwell within a state of "wandering".
In Byung-Chul Han's Non-Being There, the "wanderer" is described as one who is absent from the scene yet never truly missing—a presence that maintains distance and observes with gentleness. It reflects a respect for the space between people and things, and an awareness of relational distance.
The exhibition The Wanderer unfolds through paintings, lithographs, installations, and sculptures, constructing an inner world that balances playfulness with a subtle sense of unease. For Chen Wei Ting, "wandering" is not a form of travel, but an unnamed state of being—one that exists perpetually on the edge of observation. Waiting, drifting, and hesitation form the emotional rhythm of his recent works.

In his new pieces Perfect Face and Our Illusion, the narrative unfolds through the depicted figures, continuing a quiet inquiry into the relationship between self and other. Similar motifs can be found in works such as Exit, Lemon, and To Fall Like a Star. Rather than delivering a clear narrative, Chen presents a process of seeking and suspension, leaving open space for the viewer to enter a state of "wandering".
Lithography has become a significant medium in Chen's recent practice, with repeated experiments and failures marking a slow process of waiting and reflection. In his installations and sculptures, recurring forms and symbols emerge through shifting materials, where the tension between softness and hardness conceals a gentle disquiet.
Within this space, the viewer too becomes a wanderer. The exhibition offers no linear narrative; each gaze may overlap or dislocate with one's own memories and emotions. Between looking and being looked at, between homecoming and departure, one drifts gently in the grey zone—in the act of wandering itself.
